Working in Dubai is different, you tend to not have the same freedom as you have back home. But there are plenty of “Discreet Dudes” here in Dubai, and I am one of them. Knowing friends that you can hang out every Thursday and Friday evening makes life bearable.
To define the term, Discreet Dudes are gay men who are straight acting. In most cases, their casual friends and acquaintances are clueless of their real sexuality, their families have doubts but they have a certain type of personality that family members will hold back in getting a confirmation and most of their closest friends (majority are females) are aware of their situation.

I’m against the term “hiding in the closet”, because that defeats the idea that there are gay men who are actually comfortable being discreet. Just because you are gay, it doesn’t mean you have to like wearing women’s clothes and walking like a whore. It definitely doesn’t mean you automatically like to design clothes and cut other people’s hair! Believe me, just like how there are surfer dudes, hiphops, goths, etc. to classify men, there will also be classifications for gay men.
I have nothing against the loud and flamboyant type of gays. In order for you to earn respect, you have to respect the way that they are. In the end, what matters is everyone is being true to themselves.
